About Banking Quality

It is important for cord blood units to be stored at AABB accredited cord blood banks, which are recognized by the USA’s National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP). However, a cord blood unit is stored at a bank that is accredited by AABB, or by any other organization that provides accreditation, it does not necessarily mean that the cord blood unit can be used for a transplant if needed. Suitability of a cord blood unit for transplant is determined by the number of cells stored and not by any special accreditation organization(s).
